Tikal Birding Tours | Come Birding in Tikal
Exclusive birding expeditions in the Maya Biosphere with local expert Erdozain Lopez. Target regional endemics like the Ocellated Turkey and the elusive Orange-breasted Falcon. Authentic, community-supported birding built for hardcore listers and nature lovers.
We don't do generic commercial tours; we design tactical birding routes. Whether you need a 5:00 AM start from Flores, a sunrise walk from your Tikal jungle lodge, or a boat trip to Cráter Azul, we provide professional guiding, private transportation, entrance fees, and meals. Let's find your target species.
Our flagship route. Starting at 5:00 AM from Flores or 5:30 AM from the park's lodges (Jungle Lodge, Jaguar Inn, etc.). We hit the trails early around the ancient temples to catch the morning chorus. Includes private transport, entrance fees, breakfast, and lunch. Target: Orange-breasted Falcon.
Not an early bird? Join our afternoon session starting around 3:00 PM. We'll walk the old airstrip and strategic trails as the jungle transitions into dusk. It's the perfect way to spot different behavior patterns and evening species as the sun sets over the Maya Biosphere.
Experience unforgettable birding among ancient ruins beside a stunning lagoon. This route offers a fantastic mix of deep jungle endemics and water-associated species in a less crowded, breathtaking environment. Includes guide, transport, tickets, and lunch.
Mixing land and private water transportation. Breathe easy and let nature be your therapist as we explore the crystal-clear aquatic ecosystems of Cráter Azul and Petén Itzá Lake. A completely different habitat packed with unique Neotropical birdlife.
Venture deep into the pristine trails of Ceibal. Known for its incredible biodiversity, this adventure is for those who want to get off the beaten path, hunt for rare localized species, and fully immerse themselves in untouched wildlife.
Birding with a purpose. Experience authentic community-based tourism with my family. We combine birding with environmental education. When you tour with us, your investment goes directly into local conservation and empowering our community.

More than just a tour company, we are a family committed to protecting the Maya Biosphere. We open our community's doors to offer a total immersion where conservation and education take center stage. Through our introductory talks and ornithology workshops, we prepare visitors to understand the ecosystem before exploring it. With your visit, you don't just get to spot endemic and migratory birds; you directly fund habitat protection and the development of our people.

Born and raised in the heart of Guatemala, the jungle was my first classroom. I learned to read the forest canopy long before I read field guides. Tourism became my engine for personal growth, and after years of dedicated study and countless hours in the field, I am proud to be recognized as one of the premier birding guides in the Petén region. I don't offer generic, crowded tours; I provide exclusive, tactical birding expeditions designed for those who want to complete their lifelists.

But this is more than just a business; it's a family project rooted in authentic community tourism. We are deeply committed to conservation and environmental education. By choosing Tikal Birding Tours, you aren't just getting a world-class guide—you are directly supporting the protection of our habitats and the development of local families.

The jungle doesn't lie, and neither do our birders. From nature photographers hunting for specific lifers to casual birders exploring the Neotropics for the first time, here is what it's like to bird with a true local expert.

"Erdozain has radar for ears. I had been trying to photograph the Orange-breasted Falcon for years, and he knew exactly the tree and the time. We nailed 5 lifers in a single morning at Tikal."
John D., USA

"We loved the Sunset Birding walk along the old airstrip. Highly recommend it if you want a relaxed pace with incredible sightings as the jungle goes to sleep."

"Beyond the birds, it’s a human experience. Knowing that our tour fee supports his family’s community conservation project made this the most meaningful part of our Guatemala trip."
